June 28, 2026 – Revelations
Prevail #179 – Jeremiah 33:3 – “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” I have a favorite verse in the New Testament – Romans 8:28 – but until reading this verse in Jeremiah, I haven’t had a favorite in the Old Testament. I don’t recall having read this verse before, but that is the way with the Bible because it is the “living Word of God”. It reveals new things to us all the time.
I love this truism from Larson, “Things are rarely as they appear. And we don’t know what we don’t know…. Our perspective is skewed by our own experiences, painful memories, cultural tendencies, biases, and strong opinions. Thankfully, if we’ve walked with the Lord awhile and have spent time in His Word, we’ve experienced the wonder of gaining other-worldly wisdom that flies in the face of how things appear…. Cry out to God as your Healer, Defender, Deliverer, and Advocate. Then wait expectantly, for He will surely grant you unsearchable wisdom and the revelation you need.”
Days – “Leaning upon her beloved” (Song of Solomon viii. 5). Simpson asks, “Shall you make the claim most practical and real and lean like John your full weight on the Lord’s breast? That is the way He would have us prove our love…. Let us go forth leaning on His breast and feeding on His life. For John not only leaned but also fed. It was at supper that he leaned. This is the secret of feeding on Him….”
JC – “Taste and see that I am good.” I swear that that is what is written here in Jesus Calling. That book was next in the pile, adding to the conversation like a person in a small group would do, and these are the next words that Young speaks to us, as she believes Jesus would speak, “This command contains an invitation to experience My living Presence. It also contains a promise. The more you experience Me, the more convinced you become of My goodness.” I experienced this today as I left Atlanta after perusing the estate sale that a family friend was having for her mother (soooo many cool treasures – her mom’s taste and eclectic style really spoke to me!)
Before I left, my friend’s brother pointed out that my front tire was low. By the time I’d stopped at a gas station to fill it, I’d forgotten which tire it was; so, after trying to figure out the pump at two gas stations, I finally thought I’d gotten them both to a safe level. However, I still had that low tire pressure error on the dashboard. SO – I prayed. I gave God my tires and my car and the drive that was ahead of me. For the first 15 minutes or so, as I hit each pothole, I did keep reminding God of my prayer. After a while I was reminded that I didn’t have to keep reminding Him. He’d heard me. I was in His hands even in the fast Atlanta traffic with hardly any shoulder to pull off if anything were to happen. Each time that thought crept in, I pushed it aside and told Him again that I trusted Him no matter what and each time I felt peace and more time passed between the nagging thoughts. And when I cleared the major traffic, I started up my book and was almost totally distracted from worries about the car for the rest of the trip, like children typically are as they trust their parents.
The devotion concludes with, “Do not try to fathom My ways. Instead, spend time enjoying Me and experiencing My goodness.” Such a better way to go through life than worrying and trying to be in control of everything.
Power – Genesis 18:14 – “Is anything too hard or too wonderful for the Lord? At the appointed time, when the season [for her delivery} comes around, I will return to you and Sarah will have borne a son.” Joyce shares her thoughts about God’s timing as she reminds us about Abraham wanting a son. “What he had asked for was impossible in the natural due to his wife’s old age…. God delights in us when we come to Him with our requests, and nothing is too hard for Him…. God often waits on things and we don’t understand why, but we can and should continue to trust Him and His timing in our lives.”
Utmost – I really appreciate what Chambers is reminding us of here, “Never choose to be a worker; but when once God has put His call on you, woe be to you if you turn to the right hand or to the left. We are not here to work for God because we have chosen to do so, but because God has apprehended us. [See Philippians 3:12] There is never any thought of – ‘Oh well, I am not fitted for this.’ What you are to preach is determined by God, not by your own natural inclinations…. and remember that you are called not to bear testimony only, but to preach the gospel…. never water down the word of God; preach it in its undiluted sternness….. remember who you are – not a special being made up in heaven, but a sinner saved by grace.”
JA – “EVERYTHING YOU HAVE IS A GIFT from Me, including each breath you breathe…. Most people don’t recognize the wonder of inhaling My Life continually. Yet it was only when I breathed the breath of Life into Adam that he became a living being. As you sit quietly in My Presence, try thanking Me silently each time you inhale. As you exhale, affirm your trust in Me. The longer you do this, the more relaxed you will become…. The more you look for good things in your life, the clearer your vision becomes. Of course, your greatest gratitude should be for eternal Life, which is yours because you believe in Me.”
JL – “Dear Jesus, You are the Risen One – my Living God. I celebrate the Joy of serving a Savior who is so exuberantly alive! …Whatever I do, Lord, I want to do it all for Your Glory! In Your Victorious Name, Amen.” See 1 Corinthians 10:31 and Psalm 42:2.
