Mar 10, 2026 – Converted

Prevail #69 – Larson helps me understand why David was so loved by God despite being so flawed (apparently that pretty much speaks of all humanity) as she writes, “David was a man after God’s own heart. And because of it, he had a target on his back. The devil hated him, Saul hated him, and David even got himself into some serious trouble on occasion. Yet he knew enough to humbly cry out to the Lord. Humility in our heart activates the mercy in God’s heart. He doesn’t rescue us because we’re good or because we’ve earned it. He rescues us because we need it. His compassion runs deeper than the deepest sea.”

2 Samuel 22:20 – “He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me.”

JC – “You are Mine for all time – and beyond time, into eternity.” What a relief to be reminded of that just when we need it!  The devotion continues with its comforting words, “I want you to realize how utterly secure you are! Even if you falter as you journey through life, I will never let go of your hand…. I have prepared this day for you with the most tender concern and attention to detail.” When I read messages like that, it reminds me how important it is to start my day, even in a small way, with God. “Instead of approaching the day as a blank page that you need to fill up, try living it in a responsive mode: being on the lookout for all that I am doing…. it requires a deep level of trust, based on the knowledge that My way is perfect.”

Power – Romans 12:2 NLT – “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”  Joyce explains, “According to this Scripture, we are transformed by learning to think in a completely different way…. I love that because when people accept Christ as their Savior, we say they have been ‘converted.’ First God converts us, and then He converts everything else in our lives by helping us convert (renew) our thinking.”

Utmost – Chambers talks about transformation in this way, “We are not saved to be ‘channels only,’ but to be sons and daughters of God…into spiritual messengers; the message must be part of ourselves. The Son of God was His own message…. The natural heart will do any amount of serving, but it takes the heart broken by conviction of sin, and baptised by the Holy Ghost, and crumpled into the purpose of God, [therefore, converted] before the life becomes the sacrament of its message. There is a difference between giving a testimony and preaching…. Pentecost did not teach the disciples anything; it made them the incarnation of what they preached…. Let God have perfect liberty when you speak.”

Streams – Cowman shares many inspiring thoughts from several sources, but this from Samuel Rutherford seems to succinctly capture them all (and helps me be able to conclude for now so I can head to physical therapy!) “Trust God’s Word and His power more than you trust your own feelings and experiences.”

Max offers a brief, but important, contribution in retelling the tragedy that Horatio Spafford and his wife, Anna, faced in November 1873 when the ship that Anna and their children were on was sunk after colliding with another ship. When Horatio crossed the point of the sinking he wrote the lyrics of what “would be come an anthem to the providence of God.”

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrow like a sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.”

Max writes, “May we so trust in the providence of God that we can say the same. Always.”
