Jan 6, 2025 – Ahhhhh

After my rotator cuff surgery in September, I had to forgo my almost nightly soaks in the bathtub because my tub is deep and I needed both arms to help me stand up (my knees aren’t what they once were, if they ever were.) Even short baths make a difference in how I settle in for sleep at night; and, many magazine articles back me up on that! If I find one before I finish the blog for today, I’ll share it.  For the past few nights, though, I have been able to enjoy a good soak (with Epsom salts for my tired limbs that have been working on bringing order to the house, starting with the bedroom).

While enjoying the relaxing moments, I’ve gotten through a couple of the magazines that have been waiting for me on the side of the tub. As I walked over to turn on the water, these comforting words in large print on the 10/14/24 issue of Woman’s World caught my eye:

                                                                “God’s Got You!”

Those words led me to settle in with an article by Bonnie Siegler about Sherri Shepherd in which she shares some of her life lessons.

  1. Gain confidence by speaking up for yourself
  2. Learn to say no – I have to reset and recharge for my health
  3. Eat what feels good – be intentional about eating right
  4. Stay in motion – if we don’t exercise our muscles begin to atrophy
  5. Manifest blessings – journal…things like…I love—
  6. Pray the ‘power of 3’ – “Each day I thank God for three things, ask Him for three things and pray for three people…. This is one of the ways I relieve stress: 10 minutes of prayer and meditation. If you give yourself some grace, it resets your mind and body. It reminds you, don’t worry, don’t stress, God’s got you!”

Prevail #6 – Larson tells us, “Abraham interceded for the city of Sodom because God was about to destroy it (His nephew [Lot] lived there….) He begged God not to destroy the city if He could find even a small remnant of righteous people still there…. But Sodom’s sins had piled so high, there weren’t even ten…. when Lot tried to warn his family, they thought he was joking….”

At first I didn’t think Larson’s devotion followed Sherri’s mantras very well, but indeed she gives us some tools to help ensure we don’t fall into destruction. Larson continues, “Lot had camped among the ungodly for so long, he lost his credibility. Lot didn’t live a set-apart life, so his words didn’t carry much weight. Most compromise happens subtly. A fallen pastor once explained it to me this way, ‘I kept changing the rules, a little at a time.’ We are drifters by nature, and the drift happens subtly. May God recapture your heart today.”

Time for PT and then an airport run so I have to cut our time short today (or maybe just for now). As my therapist says, as I’m saying goodbye at the end of therapy,”Blessings!”
