September 4 & 5, 2025 – Watch
I’m posting several blogs today (2nd through 5th) because my days have gotten away from me while I’ve been here in DC. I’ve started to write each day, but then something comes up; or, more accurately, I’ve allowed something to come up, but for good reasons: taking care of my daughter and enjoying being with her. Perhaps, for anyone who has been reading along, the lull has been a nice break from all of my long-winded ponderings. Carrie and her fiancé (I haven’t asked him yet if I can use his name) went to her follow-up appointment this morning so I was on grand-dog duty and had some time to write. Plus the cabinet shelves and bins came in so I will be rearranging a bit while they’re gone!
Utmost (4th) – “The secret of the missionary is – I am His, and He is carrying out His enterprises through me. Be entirely His.”
Utmost (5th) – Matthew 26:40 – “Watch with Me.” Chambers writes, “In the early stages, we do not watch with Jesus, we watch for Him….Our Lord is trying to introduce us to identification with Himself in a particular Gethsemane, and we will not go….we do not know how to watch with Him; we are only used to the idea of Jesus watching with us. The disciples loved Jesus Christ to the limit of their natural capacity, but they did not understand what He was after….but something wonderful has happened…Our Lord’s Death and Resurrection, and Ascension, and the disciples have been invaded by the Holy Spirit…and this meant that they learned to watch Him all the rest of their lives.” And so too should we learn to watch Him and watch with Him. We don’t have to wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon us. Once we’ve believed Christ died for us, we have His Spirit with us always.
