June 23, 2026 – Crossroads

Bike ride through Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
Prevail #174 – Jeremiah 6:16 – “This is what the Lord says: ‘Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.” Larson uses this story of the Israelites rebelling against God’s ways, to wake us up, “Every day we face a similar crossroad. Will we go our own way? Lean on our own understanding? Choose an earthbound perspective instead of an eternal one? God’s ways will ultimately bring life, rest, healing, and wholeness…. Maybe you’re at a crossroads today. Stop and look around. Discern God’s way and walk in it. You’ll be glad you did.”
Power – Joyce uses James 1:19-20 to point out that “God is telling us to listen more than we talk” which is probably something the Israelites in Jeremiah’s time should have done in order to avoid the trouble they faced.
Streams – Matthew 14:29-30 – “Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!'” Cowman also has advice for our crossroad moments, “When the Lord calls you to come across the water, step out with confidence and joy. And never glance away from him for even a moment. You will not prevail by measuring the waves or grow strong by gauging the wind. Attempting to survey the danger may actually cause you to fall before it. Pausing at the difficulties will result in the waves breaking over your head. ‘Lift up [your] eyes to the hills’ (Ps. 121:1) and go forward. There is no other way.”
JC – “Let My Love stream through you, washing away fear and distrust. A trusting response includes Me in your thoughts as you consider strategies to deal with a situation. My continual Presence is a promise, guaranteeing that you never have to face anything alone…. I look for persistence – rather than perfection – in your walk with Me.” See Psalm 52:8 and Deuteronomy 31:6.
JL – “All-knowing God, When my spirit grows faint within me, it is You who know my way. This is one of the benefits of weakness; it highlights the reality that I cannot find my way without Your guidance. Whenever I’m feeling weary or confused, I can choose to look away from these feelings and turn wholeheartedly toward You…. Help me to continue this practice of gazing at You even during the times when I’m feeling confident and strong. This is when I am most at risk of going in the wrong direction. Instead of assuming that I know the next step of my journey, I’m learning to make my plans in Your Presence – asking You to guide me. Please remind me often that Your ways and thoughts are higher than mine, as the heavens are higher than the earth…. In Your exalted Name, Jesus, Amen.” See Psalm 142:3, Isaiah 55:9, and Isaiah 57:15.
