June 11, 2026 – Singing
Power – Isaiah 41:10 NLT – “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Joyce reminds us, “no mater what your fear is, God’s Word says you are not to fear because He is with you. It is just that simple. I am sure the question comes to mind: If God is with me, why do bad things happen? God never promises us trouble-free lives, but He does promise us His presence and the strength (mental, physical, and emotional) we need to get through our troubles…. and you will be stronger and know God better when it is over than before it began.”
Days – “Thou has the dew of thy youth” (Ps. cx. 3). Simpson encourages, “Oh, that you might get such a view of Him as would make it impossible for little things ever to fret you again! The petty cares and silly trifles that have troubled you so much ought rather to fill you with wonder that you can think so much about them. Oh, if you had the dew of His youth you should go forth as the morning and fulfil the promise of a glorious day! What a difference it has made in life since we have seen it was possible to do this…. to draw a little closer to Christ, to drink in a little more of that fountain of life, to get a littler nearer to that loving heart, and to draw in great draughts of refreshing and strength from it. How clear it makes the brain for work!”
JC – “Trust Me and don’t be afraid, for I am your Strength and Song…. Do not let fear dissipate your energy. Instead, invest your energy in trusting Me and singing My Song. The battle for control of your mind is fierce, and years of worry have made you vulnerable to the enemy. Therefore, you need to be vigilant in guarding your thoughts…. Your constant need for Me creates an intimacy that is well worth all the effort.” See Isaiah 12:2 and Romans 8:6.
Streams – 2 Timothy 2:24 KJV – “The servant of the Lord must…be gentle.” It seems that gentleness would spring a calm in us which would lead us to trust God and not be afraid. Cowman draws from the writings of G. D. W. (George D. Watson, an American Quaker and Methodist evangelist) to explore the fruit of gentleness, “When God finally conquers us and changes our unyielding nature, we receive deep insights into the Spirit of Jesus. Then as never before, we see His extraordinary gentleness of spirit at work in this dark and unheavenly world. Yet the gifts of ‘the fruit of the Spirit’ (Gal. 5:22) do not automatically become evident in our lives. If we are not discerning enough to recognize their availability to us, to desire them, and then to nourish them in our thoughts, they will never become embedded in our nature or behavior…. very few Christians are willing to endure the suffering through which complete gentleness is obtained. We must die to ourselves before we are turned into gentleness….”
Utmost – Chambers points out that, “The questions that matter in life are remarkably few, and they are all answered by the words – ‘Come unto Me.’ [Matthew 11:28] Not – ‘Do this, or don’t do that’; but ‘Come unto Me.’ If I will come to Jesus my actual life will be brought into accordance with my real desires; I will actually cease from sin, and actually find the song of the Lord begin…. The attitude of coming is that the will resolutely lets go of everything and deliberately commits all to Him. ‘And I will give you rest,’ i.e., I will stay you. Not – I will put you to bed and hold your hand and sing you to sleep; but – I will get you out of bed, out of the languor and exhaustion, out of the state of being half dead while you are alive; I will imbue you with the spirit of life, and you will be stayed by the perfection of vital activity.”
JA – “MY PRESENCE WILL GO WITH YOU, and I will give you rest…. But you must ‘see’ Me with the eyes of your heart and communicate with Me through prayer, trusting that I really do hear and care. I assure you that your prayers make a difference, though not always in ways you can see or in the timeframe you desire…. Since My methods of working in the world are often mysterious, it’s important to take time to be still and know that I am God. Sit quietly in My Presence, breathing in My Peace, and I will give you rest.” See Exodus 33:14, Isaiah 55:8-0, Psalm 46:10, and Psalm 29:11.
Prevail #162 – Song of Songs 2:12 – “The flowers are springing up, the season of singing birds has come, and the cooing of turtledoves fills the air.” Larson explains that this verse represents an awakening in the Shulamite woman as she, “realizes that a new season truly is upon her…. This exchange so reflects our journey toward understanding what Jesus sees when He looks upon us…. One moment we’re drawn to His loving voice as he sings over us, but the next we refute His words with our own earthbound assessments. But to move into the next place of maturity, we must also move with Jesus to a new place of intimacy, where we trust His perspective over our own.”
JL – Jesus, my constant, Companion, I want to walk joyously with You through today, holding Your hand in trusting dependence…. I’m thankful that You are not only my constant Companion but also my Guide…. Since You are the Way, being close to You is being on course…. Help me not to worry about what I’ll encounter on the road ahead…. In Your joyful Name, Amen.” See Philippians 4:13, Isaiah 58:11, John 14:6, and Hebrews 3:1.
Singing can help us seek and feel joy despite our circumstances.
