Apr 6, 2026 – Expectation
Streams – Habakkuk 2:1 – “I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me.” Cowman calls on Charles H. Spurgeon to lead us through this verse, “Without watchful expectation on our part, what is the sense in waiting on God for help? There will be no help without it. If we ever fail to receive strength and protection from Him, it is because we have not been looking for it…. The person who has no expectations and therefore fails to be on the alert will receive little help. Watch for God in the events of your life.”
Spurgeon offers this helpful way of thinking, “We need to be more businesslike and use common sense with God in claiming His promises…. People who go to the bank have a purpose in mind. They present their check, receive their cash, and then leave, having transacted real business. They do not lay their check on the counter, discuss the beauty of the signature, and point out the lovely design on it…. Unfortunately, a great many people also play at praying. They do not expect God to give them an answer, so they simply squander their prayer time. Our heavenly Father desires us to transact real business with Him in our praying.”
Power – Psalm 35:27 NIV – “May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, ‘The Lord be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.’” Joyce reminds us, “God is merciful, He is good, and He wants your needs to be met…. There are times when we have to wait for the things we want and need, and we should trust God during these times and remain emotionally stable while we are waiting…. While you wait, keep believing and thinking: God abundantly supplies all my needs… God gives me favor…. God wants to bless me, and I’m willing to take it.
JA – “EVEN THOUGH YOUR JOURNEY often feels haphazard, your steps are directed by Me. When the path that lies before you is veiled in uncertainty, the best thing you can do is cling to Me…. Talk with Me about your uncertainty…. The most important choice you make moment by moment is to stay in communication with Me.” See Proverbs 20:24 and Proverbs 16:9.
Prevail #96 – Larson’s prayer: “Father, You are still on Your throne! I declare it till my soul believes it. You will dismantle the schemes of the enemy and establish godly influence once again. Use me, Lord! Show me how to pray. Show me how to stand. I wait for You. Amen.”
