Mar 7, 2026 – Excuses

JC – “Let Me help you through this day.”

Power – Joyce pinpoints why we don’t accept God’s invitation for company and help, “When God invites people into relationship with Him, many people come up with excuses [Luke 14:18] when the truth is they simply don’t want to make the sacrifices required to follow Him. Even among those who are believers in Jesus, we still hear ample excuses for not serving Him fully. It is time to deal with excuses and start speaking truth.” See Romans 14:12.

Utmost – Chambers points out that when Paul, in Romans 8:37, says “we are more than conquerors,” he “is speaking of the things that might seem likely to separate or wedge in between the saint and the love of God; but the remarkable thing is that nothing can wedge in between the love of God and the saint…. these very things – tribulation, distress, persecution, produce in us the super joy; they are not things to fight. We are more than conquerors through Him in all these things, not in spite of them, but in the midst of them.” This is why being Christ’s constant companion is so crucial. The more we know someone, the more we know what they think and want, and perhaps we will value their opinions and directions even more as we learn more about them and whether we trust their judgment. We can trust God.

Streams – Cowman starts with a question from Days of Heaven upon Earth, “Why is it that God leads us in this way, [see 2 Corinthians 7:5] allowing such strong and constant pressure on us? One of His purposes is to show us His all-sufficient strength and grace more effectively than if we were free from difficulties and trials….Another purpose is to bring us greater awareness of our dependence upon Him…. We must stand not with self-made strength but always leaning upon Him. And our stand must exhibit a trust that would never dare to take even one step alone….. There is no way to learn of faith except through trials…. And once the lesson of faith has been learned, it is an everlasting possession and an eternal fortune gained.”

Prevail #66 – Larson uses the example of David, preparing to fight Goliath, to further demonstrate how important it is to have a relationship with and trust in God as we move forward in our lives, “David’s past battles had prepared him for his present battle. He feared God, knew His voice, and trusted His ways above all else…. What can we learn from David’s example? Follow Jesus wholeheartedly and trust His timing. Stay in pace with His grace and embrace a humble, teachable heart. Do this, and Jesus will lead you forward into your next place of promise…. You’ll know when something doesn’t fit because it’ll feel forced and foreign, and even clunky. Wisdom’s path is peace. Don’t be afraid to be you. [no excuses] Your past battles have prepared you for this moment.”
