Jan 27, 2026 – God First

Today will be brief because I’m writing from the hospital sitting with my sister-in-law waiting for the doctors to decide next steps. I didn’t bring my devotion books (and will just look online) because she’s in a very small holding area after being admitted to the hospital with no rooms available. Situations like this really test a person’s endurance and patience. We just trust that God knows we are here and is working things out ahead of us.

Joyce Meyer – website devotion – “Our desperate need for God and His desire for us to abide in Him do not mean we have to sit around being ‘super spiritual’ all the time. We do not need to feel obligated to read our Bibles or confine ourselves to a prayer closet for hours each day. It should be part of our lives, but we don’t need to feel as if we are being ‘spiritual’ when we do it and ‘unspiritual’ when we do other things. When we really love God and He is first in our lives, everything we do becomes spiritual in a way because we are doing it with Him, in Him, through Him, by Him, for Him, and to His glory.”

JC – “’I say to you, do not worry about your life…’ Our Lord says to be careful only about one thing – our relationship to Him. But our common sense shouts loudly and says, ‘That is absurd, I must consider how I am going to live, and I must consider what I am going to eat and drink.’ Jesus says you must not. Beware of allowing yourself to think that He says this while not understanding your circumstances. Jesus Christ knows our circumstances better than we do, and He says we must not think about these things to the point where they become the primary concern of our life. Whenever there are competing concerns in your life, be sure you always put your relationship to God first.”
