JC – “When something in your life or thoughts makes you anxious, come to Me and talk about it.” I read that and stopped the blog for a while to pray because I was indeed becoming a little anxious about something this morning. He was ready and waiting to listen and to calm me. “Well-developed trust will bring you many blessings, not the least of which is My Peace.”
Streams – Cowman draws from “selected” sources as she offers more comfort, “God often seems to place His children in places of deep difficulty, leading them into a corner from which there is no escape.” Yes! “He creates situations that human judgment, even if consulted, would never allow. Yet the cloudiness of the circumstance itself is used by Him to guide us to the other side. [Sort of like the disciples in the boat during the storm?] Perhaps this is where you find yourself even now…. it is a platform from which God will display His almighty grace and power. He not only will deliver you but in doing so will impart a lesson that you will never forget.” Ok, I trust You, God, and thank You for Your care and guidance. Lead on.
Prevail #60 – 1Samuel 16:2 – “But Samuel asked, ‘How can I do that? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.’” The title of Larson’s devotion today jumps right in the middle of my concerns, “Don’t Miss Your Assignment.” There are a couple of things ahead for me to do that I think could potentially be uncomfortable (and perhaps already are). Is God asking me to do them anyway or is the discomfort His way of leading me away? How do we really know the difference? Larson asks, “I don’t want to miss a thing God has for me, do you? While Saul was busy misusing his power, young David was in the wilderness learning how to fight lions and bears. He was both chosen and growing into God’s man to replace Saul. Yet when God told the prophet Samuel that it was time to anoint another king, Samuel froze in fear. Samuel’s fear made sense given Saul’s crazy, impulsive ways. And yet, the odds, the circumstances, the opposition are all meaningless when the Lord has issued a charge to us. Though it’s true that your God-given assignment may involve uncertainty, opposition, and a few giants, don’t let your fears keep you from moving forward. If God has called you to it, He will see you through it.” Ok. Again, lead on (but help me to know that it’s Your leading!)
Power – Joyce seems to understand as she writes (and God put her words here for me for such a time, and questioning, as this), “A sense of security is something everyone needs and desires. Security enables us to enjoy healthy thinking and living…. When we are secure, we approve of ourselves, we have confidence, and we accept and love ourselves in a balanced way. I believe it is God’s will for each one of us to be secure. The foundations for security are knowing who we are in Christ, accepting God’s unconditional love, and accepting ourselves even though we realize we have weaknesses and are not perfect.”
Max – Isaiah 35:5 NLT – “He will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf.” Ahhh, thank you for that reminder, Isaiah. I’ve prayed this quite a bit lately over many situations, for myself and for others. Max reminds us of the battle of wills between Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan until a key moment at the well when Helen understood the sign language, w-a-t-e-r, that Annie put in her hand as water from the well flowed over both of their hands. This resulted in a “victory parade” around the yard teaching and receiving many more words. Max continues, “Jesus gives us a similar reason to celebrate – God breaking through to our world. He is the teacher. He sends messages: H-o-p-e. L-i-f-e. He cracks the shell of our world and invites us to peek into his.”
