Jan 17, 2026 – Revival and Light

Pastor Blake Lindsey started today’s prayer service talking about revival saying, “Revival begins with deeper surrender” and quoted Leonard Ravenhill, “The only reason we don’t have revival is because we are willing to live without it!” Blake’s focus for the message today was Light from Matthew 5:16. He went a couple of verses back to 14 and pointed out that, “You are the light of the world.”

Certainly we want broad revival in our communities, state, country, and world, but perhaps, at times, when our light seems to be dimming, we need personal revival. If God’s Light is not burning inside us inspiring us to shine on others in whatever way He wants to use us, we need to seek Him to light a revival in us.  Blake ended his message with three things we should say to God: “I’m listening. I’m expectant. I’m ready.”

JA – “I BROUGHT YOU OUT into a spacious place. I rescued you because I delighted in you…. Your salvation is the greatest, most lavish gift you could ever receive. Never stop thanking me…. In the morning…. Before you go to sleep at night, praise Me for My glorious grace. Live in ways that help others see Me as the fountainhead of abundant, never-ending Life…. Live as a child of Light, securely robed in radiant righteousness.” See Psalm 18:19 and Ephesians 5:8.

Power – Joyce explains, “In order to know God – what to expect from Him and what He expects from you – you must know His Word. I know many people who have studied God’s Word diligently and whose lives have been changed, but I also know many who, although they would like their lives to improve, won’t discipline themselves to study and learn the Word or to speak the Word…. When you make that choice to seek Him with your whole heart, it won’t take long before the desire to really know God and His Word becomes a natural response.”

Utmost – Chambers add this poignant thought to the discussion, “The Son of God reveals Himself in me, and I serve Him in the ordinary ways of life out of devotion to Him.”

Prevail #17 – Larson gives a helpful explanation of Exodus 17:11-12, and why God calls us to share our gifts and shine our lights, writing, “Why did God insist that Moses keep his arms in the air? Could He have established a victory without Moses? Absolutely. He was able to. He just didn’t want to. God loves to involve His children when He intervenes on earth. Even when we’re tired? When it’s a battle? Yes and yes. Without faith, how would we change? If we don’t persevere, how will we grow? Joshua led the troops into battle and needed Moses to stand in that place of intercession. Moses needed Aaron and Hur to hold up his arms when he lost strength. Together, they won the battle…. You’re part of a grander story than you can imagine.”

JC – “This is the day that I have made. I want you to rejoice today, refusing to worry about tomorrow. Search for all that I have prepared for you, anticipating abundant blessings and accepting difficulties as they come. I can weave miracles into the most mundane day if you keep your focus on Me.” See Psalm 118:24 and Philippians 4:19, 6-7.

Streams – Cowman quotes George Mueller, “We know it is written, ‘the living God,’ but in our daily life there is almost nothing we lose sight of as often as the fact that God is the living God…. We overlook the fact that He will do for us now what He did thousands of years ago for others, simply because He is the unchanging, living God…. Be assured, if you walk with Him, look to Him, and expect help from Him, He will never fail you. She shared what Alexander Maclaren wrote, “People come and go. Leaders, teachers, and philosophers speak and work for a season and then fall silent and powerless. He abides. They die but He lives. They are lights that glow yet are ultimately extinguished. But He is the true Light from which they draw their brightness, and He shines forevermore.”

Max points out, from the story of the boy with the loaves and fishes (John 6:8-9, 11) that, “Jesus didn’t have to use the boy’s bread…. He could have caused the Galilean sea to spew out an abundance of fish…. What’s in your basket? All you have is a wimpy prayer? Give it. All you have is a meager skill? Use it. All you have is an apology? Offer it. It’s not for you and me to tell Jesus our gift is too small. [Or that our light is too dim.] God can take a small thing and do a big thing.”

Matthew 5: 16 – “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Be revived and inspire revival….
